James is primarily involved in commercialising research with Mechanical, Aeronautical, Chemical, nuclear or environmental applications.

Prior to working at the Innovation Factor, James spent 8 years at a chemistry spinout of Imperial University (Econic Technologies, which makes plastic out of CO2). There, he gained experience in the challenges of working in a small but expanding spinout company. He held various roles which often involved communicating with a wide variety of people, technical and non-technical.

James has also had jobs developing car exhaust catalysts and teaching English in Japan.
