Lutèo Medical, a new biotechnology company developing microbiome-based healthcare solutions, has launched as a spinout company from The University of Manchester. The company is focused on translating cutting-edge microbiome science into innovative technologies designed to tackle major healthcare challenges and improve patient outcomes.
Founded on pioneering research from laboratory of Professor Catherine O’Neill at The University of Manchester (UoM), Lutèo Medical is developing novel approaches that harness the power of the human microbiome, the complex ecosystem of microorganisms that play a critical role in human health and disease. By advancing understanding of how bacteria interact with the body, the company aims to develop new therapeutic and diagnostic technologies capable of transforming the prevention, detection, and treatment of disease.
The company’s work sits at the forefront of one of the fastest-growing areas in life sciences and medicine. Growing evidence continues to demonstrate the importance of the microbiome in a wide range of conditions, including infectious disease, inflammation, immune response, and chronic illness. Lutèo Medical’s mission is to bridge the gap between breakthrough academic discovery and real-world clinical application, helping to unlock the therapeutic potential of microbiome science for patients worldwide.
Lutèo Medical was established as a spinout from UoM with commercialisation support from the University of Manchester Innovation Factory, the university’s technology transfer office dedicated to setting up new spinout companies, secure licensing agreements and help negotiate funding deals for IP originating from the University.
Professor Catherine O’Neill one of the Founders of Lutèo Medical, said:
“Lutèo Medical was created to translate exciting advances in microbiome science into technologies that have the potential to make a genuine difference to patient care. We believe the microbiome represents one of the most promising frontiers in modern medicine, and our goal is to develop innovative solutions that can deliver meaningful clinical impact while improving understanding of human health and disease.”
Ewelina Rozycka-Burn, Head of Commercial Development at the University of Manchester Innovation Factory, said:
“Lutèo Medical demonstrates the power of world-leading research from The University of Manchester that drives the creation of ambitious, purpose-driven businesses capable of shaping the future of healthcare. We are proud to have supported the team in launching the company and are excited to see the impact their innovation could have on patients, the medical sector and beyond.”
Lutèo Medical joins a growing community of spinout companies emerging from The University of Manchester that are transforming breakthrough academic research into commercially viable technologies addressing global healthcare and societal challenges.
